School Incursions

Patma Music School Incursions have a strong educational foundation and are highly interactive.

Each program is built around the narrative and music of well-known classical works such as Peter & the Wolf (Prokoffiev),  Carnival of the Animals (Saint Saens), and Babar the Elephant (Poulenc).

Primary Incursions

Patma Music Primary school incursions provide children with an engaging and friendly experience of classical music and the opportunity to participate in an interactive and entertaining performance of well known and loved childrens' stories.

The programs provide an introduction to the orchestra, orchestral instruments and an understanding of how the elements of music such as rhythm, harmony, melody and tone quality can be used in characterisation. Activities built into the program encourage students to learn about and actively explore all elements of music making.

Secondary Incursions

The Secondary school incursions are designed to enrich existing Senior school orchestral programs. Patma musicians join with the school orchestra working with our conductor in a session of rehearsals, tutorials and a masterclass. The program culminates in a joint performance for the Junior and/or Lower Secondary students at the school.

Here is what Chris McGillen, Director of Music/Head of Performing Arts, St. Michaelís Grammar School had to say following a pilot incursion last year:

"Spell-binding! St Michael's students were whisked away by the sheer presence of the musicians and the director, Pat Miller. By far the most worthwhile event we have hosted for many years, and the on-going benefits from the mentoring of these young professionals for our students is palpable."
